Ryan Chamberlain

Ryan Chamberlain

In Munich at the first World Cup of 2011 Ryan raced in one of two GB LTAMix4+ boats and took bronze with crewmates Kelsie Gibson, Kate Jones, Luke Almond and cox Rhiannon Jones.

At the 2010 World Rowing Championships on Lake Karapiro in New Zealand, Ryan - with his crewmates Kate Jones, James Roe, Kelsie Gibson and cox Rhiannon Jones - won a silver medal in the adaptive mixed coxed four.  They narrowly led the race until the dying 100m when the Canadians surged to take the lead, crossing the line four-tenths of a second ahead of the British boat to win gold.  Germany took the bronze.  This was a fine achievement for Ryan who was a new member of the Adaptive development squad for 2010.

Ryan had his first taste of international rowing in the LTA mixed coxed four at the Varese Adaptive Regatta in early May 2010, winning gold on both days.  At Bled, the only World Cup in the 2010 Series which featured adaptive rowing, he again won gold in the same boat.

Ryan was introduced to the delights of the ergometer by one of his physios whilst a patient at Queen Mary's Hospital, Roehampton.  He took to it straight away and attended a multi-sport Paralympic Potential day where he was identified as a potential adaptive rower and advised to join a club.  As he was due to start a Masters degree at King's College London a few weeks later, he decided to join their boat club which is where he first learnt to row.

Before his accident, Ryan was a keen mountaineer and his aim is to get back to the mountains as soon as possible.

Ryan is Lottery Funded through UK Sport.
